Why confidence is important in life




















So excited to be here with Dr. TC North out of Colorado. How are you doing today? Kim: So we are going to be talking about one of our favorite topics. It is the 12 benefits of increasing yourself confidence.

TC: Thank you Kim. This is one of my favorite topics and so yes, the extent that confidence affects us really surprises people. Does that work? Kim: Absolutely, one-hundred percent. Go for it. TC: [Laughing] With a year-old memory!

Number one is being your best under stress and this is really important. What people really want confidence for is to have it when it counts. The third benefit is having leadership presence, or executive presence.

And presence is that vibration that people feel when you show up. Do I like them? Do I trust them? Are they confident? Are they scared? People actually trust people who are more confident than they trust somebody who has a lot of anxiety or nervousness.

Kim: Perfect. Keep going. People talk about the importance of self-confidence all the time but do not realize the extent of its importance. We only realize the importance of self-confidence when there is a lack of self-confidence in a person and it affects negatively in different areas of life.

Confidence basically means to trust. When you say that you have full confidence in someone, it means that you trust them. It is an ability to make yourself comfortable in different situations while remaining true to yourself. Believing in oneself while accepting the flaws and becoming better. All these descriptions collectively make up the definition of self-confidence. People often confuse self-confidence or confidence with over-confidence. Overconfidence often borders the narcissistic personality in a person.

One basic difference between the two terms is that an overconfident person absolutely believes in himself without even thinking that anything can go wrong. Self-confidence impacts the whole personality and life of a person. This is why the importance of self-confidence cannot be denied or neglected. The following points highlight the importance of self-confidence. In psychology, self-esteem is considered an important ability to have a successful life in terms of having a healthy life — both physically and mentally.

Having confidence in oneself is a gateway to developing better self-esteem and vice versa. Confident in your technical know-how. Confident in the manner in which you deliver your services. And confident in the face of rejection. Learning how to be confident is the single most important life skill you will ever acquire. It impacts your happiness, success and well-being. All other desirable qualities use confidence as the foundation.

Historically, confidence was thought of as an innate personal trait — some were born with it, others were not. However, more recent research substantiates that confidence is learned and developed. Nobody is born with confidence. People begin to develop confidence while growing up. The role of parents in installing self-confidence in children is essential. Parents who are critical of their children without acknowledging their strengths unknowingly damage the development of self-confidence.

On the other hand, parents who give support and encourage children to move forward will likely rear self-confident children. Learning to be confident starts with small challenges and gradually builds up to bigger ones. Confidence is built one step at a time. You must realize that even those people who appear to be very self-confident acquired this trait over time. You acquire confidence through key attributes including:.

In learning how to be confident, it is essential that you understand that confidence is under your control. It is not controlled by someone else. Anyone without a healthy amount of confidence is more likely to cave to peer pressure, even when they know better.
